Hello! Talking about lemons, we’ve dropped a right lemon in last weeks post by omitting to tell you a few important things that you should know! Although lemon is a wonderful element used both internally and cosmetically, it is also very powerful. We advise you not use it whilst sitting in front of the computer or in the sun, as it may be harmful. Also, for those of you with fair, blonde hair, comb lemon juice through your hair and sit in the sun to help give you a natural highlight.

This week, we’ll be telling you all about an ingredient you may have never heard of, but should definitely be interested in adding to your skin and beauty regime; Sea Buckthorn.

Now, what is it exactly? Sea Buckthorn is a fruit commonly known for its various medicinal uses in areas of Russia, China and India. It is rich in vitamin C, nearly 12 times the amount of that found in oranges, contains B-carotene and is also full of vitamins A and E.

Russian cosmonauts, such as Valentina Tereshkova, (the first woman in space! See left) used to use Sea Buckthorn as a form of UV protection, from the harsh UV rays they were subjected to whilst on their missions. Russian families have also been known to use it for even more of its medicinal properties and even as a homemade cosmetic product, extracting the fruits oils and using it for lotions and creams! It’s a wonder that this miracle ingredient is not as commonly known as it should be.

We at MN have been using Sea Buckthorn in a number of our products for quite a while now (Organic Argan Glow , Organic Argan Radiance and Manatude Facial Care), and it is has many effects and uses.

The vitamins found in Sea Buckthorn have been researched to have not only healing properties for wounds (yet another reason why it is so very much loved by the Russians and everybody else), but also to help skin through the ageing process. Vitamins C, A and E are believed to be essential vitamins for the skin in maintaining a youthful, supple and soft appearance as well as also fighting against free radicals, giving your skin a much brighter glow, which is why we also recommend using our Organic Argan Glow as a light bronzer!

As an oil, Sea Buckthorn has a striking orange/red colour that is a clear indication of its beta-carotene content. Beta-carotene is one of the types of carotenoids that can be found in fruits, plants and trees, which are natural fat-soluble pigments that give these natural products their striking hue. Not only do they produce colour, but they also give plants such as Sea Buckthorn the ability to help work as UV protection for your skin. Beta-carotene can also be found in carrots, and it is said this is where the old myth of carrots helping to help slow down vision loss directly comes from, as beta-carotene is reported to help in aiding with vision problems. Drinking carrot juice has a long list of great health effects due to its vitamin and beta-carotene content.

We love vitamins, as we know just how powerful they can be in helping us maintain our best levels of optimum health. We also understand that the advantages of vitamins do not end with how we take them internally, but how we can also apply them to our skin to reap all the benefits they have.

The team at Moroccan Natural are constantly searching for new and amazing ingredients, and we are happy to tell you what we have discovered about the great properties of these products and how they may work for you. As we’ve taken it upon ourselves to make it our mission to keep you posted and informed on all our research and exploration.
